Pay As You Learn
We understand that sometimes “things come up” and you may be unable to attend a class. By paying as you go, you are not paying for classes you cannot attend. This policy applies to both group classes and private lessons.
Private Lessons
Private lessons are by far the fastest way to learn and are suitable for all levels. A private lesson will guarantee you personal tuition, one on one with your teacher. They are available in ½ hour or 1 hour sessions. Lessons are by appointment only and can be arranged by contacting the studio. To make an appointment please call 03 9338 6000 or Email Pivot Dance Studio
For more information and lesson fees please go to the Class Info page.
Social Ballroom Classes
We offer a range of social classes each week at Pivot Dance Studio to suit all levels. Classes are available for all age groups - Children’s, Teenager’s and Adults.
Our social ballroom classes cover all styles of ballroom dancing including Latin American, Standard Ballroom, Rock’n’Roll, Street Latin and New Vogue. A cross section of dances, such as the Waltz, Cha Cha, Salsa, Tango and Evening 3 Step, are taught in these classes. We also teach progressive dances that are used at our social functions, including the progressive jive and the barn dance.
Class times and further information is available on the Class Info page.
Medal Classes
Medal classes are for those who like setting goals and/or want to learn more advanced steps and technique. Classes are style specific, that is we run separate classes for Latin American, Standard Ballroom, Rock’n’Roll, Street Latin and New Vogue. Each class starts at a Bronze level and progress through Silver, Gold and beyond until you reach Oscar.
|
Medal classes are generally smaller so your dancing will improve at a greater rate. The classes run for one semester with a dancing exam in the last week. Your teacher will partner you in the exam.
Medal routines and dancing examinations are based on the Australian Dancing Society Syllabus. A written report and a medallion is presented to each candidate on completion of his/her medal exam.
Don’t worry if you’re not interested in doing a medal, you can still join the class and benefit technically while learning more advanced steps/routines.
Class times and further information is available on the Class Info page.

Children’s Class
Our Children’s “DanceFit” class caters for both boys and girls aged from 4 - 12 years old. Dances taught in this class include all the traditional ballroom dances such as the Cha Cha, Jive and Evening 3 Step. We also incorporate novelty / line dances like the Nutbush, Heel Toe Polka and the Hokey Pokey.
Pivot Dance Studio aims to make its kid’s class FUN! Dancing is also a great way for kid’s to exercise. It keeps them active and healthy, both physically and mentally. Dance classes also benefit their self confidence and social skills.
We encourage parents to stay and watch their child in the class. The emphasis in our kid’s class is on Movement to Music, Co-ordination and fun!
Class times and further information is available on the Class Info page.
Teenager’s Class
Pivot Dance Studioholds a weekly Teenager’s Class that teaches a cross section of all ballroom dances. The class is for both guys and girls. We use the latest music in our Teen’s class and encourage our pupils to bring along their favourite tracks to dance to.
We have structured the class to cater for all levels from beginners to advanced. The class is divided into small groups, depending on levels, and each group is taught different dances. At the end of the semester the pupils are asked if they want to participate in a medal examination, based on the dances taught in the class. (Medal examinations are optional) All groups are then joined towards the end of the session to enable them to practice the dances and to socialise.
Class times and further information is available on the Class Info page.
Hip Hop & Funk
Let Pivot Dance Studio show you all the latest Hip Hop & Funk moves. Dance like all your favourite singers and performers, just like in their video clips. The class caters for all levels and age groups and is for both guys and girls.
Class times and further information is available on the Class Info page.
Do I need to book in advance?
Bookings are not necessary if you want to attend a group class, just turn up on the night. Go to our Class Info page for a list of all classes for this semester.

What do I wear?
Wear something comfortable. Remember, you will be moving around a lot in the class so wear clothing that won’t restrict your movement.
Shoes should be comfortable as well. Avoid shoes that could easily come off while dancing. The heel of your foot should feel secure. Ladies: high heels are not necessary but can be worn if you prefer.
